Position: National Maths Lead

Contract: Permanent. Full Time.

Salary range: £60,000 – £65,000 (depending on experience)

Required for January 2021

Astrea Academy Trust is at an exciting period of growth and development. To support our ambitions, we are seeking to appoint an additional National Maths Lead for Maths to join our Central team in January 2021.

The National Lead for Maths will work with our two other National Maths leads to promote and implement Astrea strategies for improving attainment and progress in Maths within our secondary schools. Working in partnership with Astrea’s two other National Maths leads, Academy Principals, Heads of Department and other Astrea staff, the role involves developing a rigorous KS3 maths curriculum and a pedagogical approach that focuses on teacher direct instruction. This will include activities such as coaching, planning, leadership development, modelling strong practice, data analysis, curriculum development, support with student intervention and co-leading national subject meetings.

Candidates will need to demonstrate;

· Experience of working across phases and a number of schools/academies, particularly in terms of curriculum development

· Evidence of being an excellent classroom practitioner that can model best practice

· Experience of understanding departmental reviews, well versed in the Ofsted requirements in terms of teaching, learning, and assessment

· Experience of leading, developing and enhancing the teaching practice of other staff

· Experience of leading a successful Maths department

· The ability to work collaboratively to secure the best outcomes for all students

· Awareness of direct instruction Maths programmes

With 27 academies within the group, across South Yorkshire and Cambridgeshire, Astrea Academy Trust continues to grow and inspire beyond measure.

Our academies – primary, secondary and all-through – do not subscribe to the ‘schooling’ stance of a results-driven philosophy but rather state emphatically that education is about much more than just attainment. Our culture of innovation and creativity enables individuals to challenge the preconceptions of education and helps to sculpt the educational landscape of the future.

Astrea is passionate about cultivating our own talented workforce. We are committed to high quality professional development and career opportunities for all staff. We have established career progression pathways through into leadership positions; pedagogy leaders, subject leaders and fast track programmes into Headship.

If you are motivated by contributing to a culture of constant improvement, and if you are seeking to improve outcomes for young people in a dynamic and growing Academy Trust, then we would love to hear from you.

We welcome applications from candidates who meet the criteria in the accompanying recruitment pack. To apply for this exciting role, please complete an Astrea application form and email it to: by the closing date below.
