Astrea Academy Woodfields is recruiting for a full time Business Manager to join the academy at a very exciting stage in its development.

The role of the Business Manager is to support the Principal in her duty to ensure that the academy meets its educational aims.  The Business Manager is expected to carry out the responsibilities listed below in a manner which is in keeping with the values and vision of the Academy.

The Business Manager will promote the highest standards of business ethos within the administrative function of the Academy and strategically ensure the most effective use of resources in support of the Academies objectives.  The Business Manager is responsible for ensuring that the academy meets the standards set by the Education and Skills Funding Agency/DfE.

 

Duties and responsibilities will include:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Provide strategic and management guidance to the Principal and Trustees on all aspects of academy business management.
  • Attend Senior Leadership Team meetings and Trustee meetings as requested, preparing and presenting reports as required.
  • Understand the implications of government policies and educational developments and advise the Principal of the implications from a business management prospective.
  • Negotiate and influence strategic decision making within the academy’s Senior Leadership Team.
  • Plan and manage change in accordance with the academy’s strategic plan.

 

Finance

  • To support the Cluster Finance Manager with the preparation, implementation and monitoring of the Academy’s budget. To be responsible for the accurate maintenance of financial records, ensuring adequate audit trails are available and that archiving is undertaken in compliance with current legislation.
  • To attend finance related meetings as required by the Central Finance Team.
  • To support the Cluster Finance Manager in administering financial delegation and monitoring budget headings.
  • To lead on any financial audits (internal and external).
  • Ensure compliance with the payroll sign off process.
  • Ensure accuracy of payment of invoices for the academy in line with the scheme of delegation.
  • To periodically carry out reviews of service level agreements and ensure principles of Best Value are being adhered to.
  • To source funding streams and maximise income generation by writing funding bids within the ethos of the Trust.
  • To act as an articulate ambassador and raise the profile of the academy through effective marketing of a corporate image.
  • To take an active role in developing and managing innovative partnership arrangements.

 

Asset Register

  • Responsible for managing the Academy asset register using PS Assets system. Maintaining the register, organising stock takes and day to day management of the record.  Ensuring information is up to date and accurate.

 

Support Staff Development

  • Lead the academy’s support staff function (E.g. Administration, Premises, ICT, Technicians etc.) by line managing each department’s lead member of staff.
  • Maintain, monitor, evaluate and lead improvements in all aspects of the support function of the Academy to deliver outcomes based on the Academy’s aims and goals.
  • Responsible for taking appropriate action when aware of unsatisfactory issues arising in any aspect of the support function of the Academy.

 

Premise Management

  • Monitor, assess and review contractual obligations for outsourced services.
  • If needed, in liaison with the Premises Manager draw up specifications for new buildings, change of use etc. and obtain tenders.

 

The above duties are not exhaustive and the postholder may be required to undertake tasks, roles and responsibilities as may be reasonably assigned to them by the Principal.
