Students at Ernulf Academy help collect over 750 football shirts for charity

Students and staff at Ernulf Academy in St Neots are collecting and sorting football shirts to regift for children who may not receive any, or many presents this year. The Kitmas 24 crowdfunder is a community fundraising event where either money can be gifted or people can donate football shirts in very good condition. Ernulf Academy is the central hub where all second hand football shirts are being delivered, with over 750 shirts donated by people across the country.

Head students and prefects at Ernulf Academy have been sorting through donations, with the final shirts being sent off this week. Students will also be helping to distribute 100 brand new football shirts to pupils at local primary schools, who are selected by their school to receive a gift.

The Kitmas idea was started by football podcaster Paul Watson five years ago. So far, the charity has raised nearly £6,500 this year.

Head Girl Isabelle Flowerday said:

“Although football isn’t my favourite sport, I believe that every young person, no matter what their background, should wake up on Christmas morning with something special to open.

“Christmas is a time for giving and the prefect team has loved having an opportunity to give back to our local community and beyond.

“I’d like to thank everyone for their donations so far, they’ve been really generous.”

Thomas Fisher, Principal at Ernulf Academy said:

“I’m so proud of our pupils who have supported Kitmas so far!

“It’s great to see how much they want to help other children who otherwise may not get any presents this Christmas. We want our pupils to develop confidence, independence and resilience, whilst being considerate, tolerant and to contribute to the wider community and I think this project has helped to demonstrate these wonderful qualities from our students.

“We’re really happy to be the distribution centre for this great initiative.”
