Louise Stanton – Principal, Waverley Academy

‘At Waverley academy, we are passionate about supporting our ECT teachers, to ensure that they thrive in the education sector, supporting the development of our young people. We ensure that all teachers have a strong and robust package of support, which develops their subject knowledge, teacher tool kit and has their wellbeing at heart. Each ECT has an identified mentor, who they work with weekly to agree targets, look at ways to support and engage in deliberate practice time. At Waverley academy, there is a whole school culture of #being brilliant, this includes staff as well as children. We know that we are all learners, and with a dedicated, deliberate and protected CPD programme we can ensure the very best teaching and learning for our children.’

Kiera Burgin- ECT Waverley Academy

‘We have CPD meetings every Tuesday where we learn a range of modelling strategies and behaviour management strategies. We get opportunities to talk about how we have used these in our class, plan with others and get advice. I meet with my mentor weekly, who is always available to support me.’

Emily Walker – Teacher Hexthorpe Academy

‘I am currently in my third year as a teacher at Hexthorpe Primary Academy and being part of the Astrea trust has provided me with opportunities to work collaboratively with other Astrea schools, share practice and develop my skills as a teacher. Being part of this trust has also given me leadership opportunities by working with a network of supportive, inspiring leaders to develop my roles as PE lead and English lead.’

Emily Free – ECT Hexthorpe Academy

‘I have loved being part of the Astrea Academy Trust as an ECT for the past 6 months. I have received ample opportunities to improve my own CPD. This, along with fantastic support from my mentors and staff across the school has really helped me thrive and enjoy my first year of teaching.’
