Brand new all-through Astrea Academy Sheffield will officially open on Tuesday 1 October. The academy has been open for nearly a full year and has made a flying start, with the school already oversubscribed and becoming the local employer of choice with an average of 40 to 50 applications per vacancy.

A beacon for Burngreave, Astrea Academy Sheffield provides an all-round education for 2 to 18- year- olds that aims to inspire beyond measure. At a time when teacher recruitment is in crisis, this Sheffield academy is in a luxurious position to appoint world class staff and teachers. The academy is creating teaching and wider school roles for people in the community – some of whom attended the historic grade II listed primary school when they were children – and will offer many more as it expands to full capacity.

Tomorrow the academy is celebrating its state-of-the-art new building with a live performance by the school choir in the new outdoor Amphitheatre, an opportunity which forms part of ‘The Astrea Promise’. An official ribbon cutting will take place at the main reception next to the brand-new sculpture, designed and created by sculptor Michael Johnson alongside all Year 7s and early year students.

Last September the new academy – which incorporates the old Grade 2 listed Pye Bank Board School building – opened its doors to Reception children and Year 7s. This year a new crop of local students has joined the Nursery, Reception and Year 7, with current students now entering Year 1 and Year 8 for the first time in the school’s lifetime.
